DASK (Compulsory Earthquake Insurance)

Compulsory state earthquake insurance for residential property in Turkey. Covers structural damage to the building from an earthquake and its direct consequences.

Covers fire, explosion, or landslide caused by an earthquake — it does not cover furniture, personal belongings, or indirect losses such as lost rental income.

A valid DASK policy is required before a Tapu can be registered — it's a mandatory condition of the transaction. The policy runs for 1 year and must be renewed annually. The premium is calculated from the property's floor area and construction type; the maximum coverage amount is updated regularly by the state — confirm the current figure with your insurer or agent at the time of the deal.

Note: Turkey is preparing to expand this system into Zorunlu Afet Sigortası (ZAS), a single policy covering multiple natural disasters, not just earthquakes. As of when this was written, the law had not yet taken effect; this page will be updated once it does.
